ClanGen is one of those games that kind of sneaks up on you. At first, it seems simple — you’re just running a group of warrior cats — but the more you play, the more attached you get. Inspired by the Warrior Cats books, it’s a free offline game where you either create your clan or let the game generate one for you. Then you just… let time pass. Cats are born, they get sick, they train, fight, form relationships (good and bad), and sometimes die — and it’s surprisingly emotional.
It’s all point-and-click. You manage patrols, deal with injuries, watch friendships and rivalries form, and try to keep your clan alive through changing seasons. The game moves forward in moons (months), and a ton can happen in each one. Sometimes you’ll laugh at the weird events that pop up — other times you’ll genuinely be sad when a favorite cat doesn’t make it.
The cats are randomly generated, with unique appearances, names, and personalities
Relationships are dynamic — they actually grow, change, and affect the story
Events happen naturally (predators, drama, sickness, etc.) so no two playthroughs are the same
You don’t need an internet connection, and the fan community keeps updating it
Don’t ignore patrols — they’re more important than they seem
Keep your warriors-to-apprentice ratio balanced
Pay attention to relationship drama; it can mess things up fast
Train your kits and apprentices early — you’ll need strong cats later
Save often. Seriously. Stuff happens.
